The Hispanic Access Foundation (HAF) has launched a national health campaign to educate Latinos about the prevention and early detection of breast and colorectal cancers, according to an HAF statement. Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Together We Can Defeat Cancer” will emphasize breast cancer screenings for women older than 40 and colorectal screenings for women and men older than 50. It will include educational workshops, a public service announcement campaign and a toll-free helpline to connect Latinos to health resources in their communities. The campaign will be based in New York City, Miami, Houston and Rio Grande Valley, Texas. Of all cancers, breast cancer is the primary killer of Latinas, while colorectal cancer is the second most common among both female and male Latinos.
