Parents and physicians are suing the Clovis Unified SchoolDistrict near Fresno, California, over its high school abstinence-only sexeducation, according to a statement by the American Civil Liberties Union(ACLU), which represents the plaintiffs. The lawsuit claims the district isviolating state law, as well as putting the health of teenagers at risk. TheACLU says the textbook used by the district does not mention condoms, butinstead lists abstinence, self-respect and plenty of rest as ways to preventsexually transmitted infections. The ACLU asserts that this suit is the firstof its kind in California.
